New York Public Library: an outstanding success
Is three hours of a Warrior Librarian presentation too much to bear? Apparently not, as not one person threw anything during the recent performance in New York.
The audience was treated to a number of original library jokes, together with a demonstration of how harmonica lessons are not in any way related to original cataloguing and organization of resources. Some of the lucky albeit somewhat unwilling participants in the demonstration actually were allowed to keep the candy bars.
There was also a blatant attempt to buy laughs by throwing toy koalas into the audience. Strangely enough, it actually worked ...

ALL THINGS COME, EVENTUALLY
It only took 30 years
The Salem News reports that former Library Director Shirley Raynard began pushing for a library expansion 30 years ago; the results of her persistance will be on view on November 8.
Seems a shame though that the expansion will be stocked by donation. The Salem News is a little ambiguous when it says that "Librarians are organizing the last of more than 40,000 books, movies and other materials as volunteers wrap up a $600,000 donation drive for the town's revamped Flint Public Library."
So, did they collect money, then buy the stuff; or is all the stuff other folks' chuck-outs? Typical of the mainstream press - no clear, concise, language. Admittedly, fewer spelling mistakes, or as we in the industry say "typesetting abhorations" ...

Yes, we got back safely. Yes, we had a brilliant time in New York and Washington DC. And thanks for asking.
It's hard to define the greatest of the many highlights, but presenting to the NYPL Librarians was definitely the best of New York (and meeting Rex Libris, of course, although not at an actual library - but then he wasn't rostered on then, apparently).
The best of Washington DC? LOC of course, although apart from signing the LOC copy of Biblia's Guide to Warrior Librarianship it was all pretty low key. Heck, I even wore my Mighty Mouse shirt. Let it not be said (too often) that I'm a limelight hog ...
